The guide to Oslo’s 11 essential bakeries (and must-try pastries)

The top artisanal bakeries in Oslo that hit the sweet spot

Oslo’s bakery scene balances tradition with a fresh, modern approach. Long-established bakeries sit alongside smaller, independent spots focusing on sourdough, organic grains and slow fermentation. Cardamom, cinnamon and vanilla feature heavily in Norwegian pastries, while a growing number of bakeries experiment with international influences. Many places mill their own flour or source from local producers, keeping quality and sustainability at the forefront. Whether it’s a simple bun with coffee or a perfectly shaped laminated pastry, baked goods are an everyday part of life here.

Lutlaget

Lutlaget’s bakery is led by pastry chef Diana Elizondo, formerly of three-Michelin-starred Maaemo, bringing a precise, technique-driven approach to traditional baking. The display is lined with golden croissants, deeply caramelised canelés and hefty loaves of naturally leavened sourdough. The laminated pastries are shaped with attention to detail, showcasing delicate layers that shatter with each bite. The bakery operates alongside a brasserie, pizzeria and wine bar, but the pastry counter stands out as a destination of its own. The interior combines raw industrial elements with warm wooden accents, creating a laid-back atmosphere. Signature offerings include crisp, flaky kouign-amann and a dense yet airy cardamom bun packed with spice and butter.
