Bank Hotel

What’s the hotel in a nutshell?

Bank Hotel is a confluence of historical allure and modern luxury in Stockholm’s genteel Östermalm district. The audacious Art Deco façade, a brainchild of architect Thor Thorén, starkly contrasts Stockholm’s typical minimalist aesthetics, signalling a stylish departure. This establishment isn’t merely a hotel; it’s a bold statement, a modern-day renaissance palace where art-deco extravagance melds with the stoic legacy of its banking past. Its allure isn’t just in its luxurious offerings but in its ability to transport guests to a bygone era while keeping them firmly rooted in modern-day opulence.

What are the rooms like?

Navigate Bank Hotel’s myriad of rooms and you’ll realise ‘standard’ was left at the door. Elegant doubles to decadent suites, each space is a masterclass in design juxtaposition: 1910s architecture shaking hands with audacious contemporary flair. Let your senses get lost in the rich textures, from thick carpets that challenge gravity, to provocative art pieces that whisper tales of a bygone era. And just when you think the narrative is complete, the limestone bathrooms interject with their Diptyque Paris accents, elevating a simple routine into an event. Velvet armchairs, king-sized sanctuaries – every element here isn’t just chosen; it’s orchestrated.

What else?

At Bank Hotel, there’s a relentless pursuit of merging the past with the edgy present. Begin your journey at Papillon bar, once a bank executive’s sanctuary, now reinvented with avant-garde mixes, such as the alcohol-free Mediterranean Sour. Migrate to Bonnie’s, where the gravity of its banking hall aesthetics is rivalled only by culinary champions like their signature beef fillet. The allure doesn’t end there. Le Hibou elevates guests with unmatched Östermalm vistas, while Sophie’s throws you headlong into a cocktail tempest brimming with Stockholm’s unabashed spirit. The Bank Art Collection isn’t just decor; it’s a silent, yet commanding narrative threading through your stay.

What’s the neighbourhood like?

Norrmalm is the central borough of Stockholm. Peppered with parks, waterways and an island, this neighbourhood shows off the city’s ritzy side through theatres, museums and glorious plazas. Norrmalm has some excellent places to stay, great shopping, some very good restaurants and a couple of must-visit museums – not least Nationalmuseum, which was re-inaugurated in 2018, and Hallwylska Museet, an incredible inner-city palace that remains virtually untouched since the late 1800s.
