Black Aurora Nook

What’s the accommodation in a nutshell?

Located in a remote location between Austnesfjord and Higravstinden, the highest mountain in Lofoten, Black Aurora Nook is a timber holiday home that blends seamlessly with the natural landscape. Its unique architecture, by Atelier Dirnbacher, features a base flanked by two opposing structures with mono-pitch roofs, with different ceiling heights creating an exciting spatial experience. The interior design is comfortable and versatile, with all rooms made of the same untreated wood, from the wall panelling to the built-in furniture.

What is the building like?

The building is designed as a single space divided into two rectangular areas, with a master bedroom and a sleeping alcove, each with a double bed, accessible from the living and dining area. The bathroom, with a view of Higravstinden, is accessible from both rooms. The two gallery levels under the shed roofs offer another sleeping area as well as a lookout, perfect for watching sea eagles and the northern lights.

The nearest grocery store is in Svolvær, the capital of Lofoten, approximately 30 kilometres away. The house is great for families or couples, and dogs are welcome. Black Aurora Nook is an architectural and natural spectacle in a truly breathtaking location. Its simple yet stunning design, coupled with the surrounding wilderness, creates an unforgettable holiday experience.

What’s the region like?

Welcome to Nordland in Norway, a region that captures the essence of Scandinavian charm and natural splendour. Nordland’s vast landscapes offer breathtaking fjords, rugged mountains and the stunning Lofoten Islands that seem to rise straight from the sea. A must-visit attraction is the Saltstraumen, the world’s strongest tidal current, where you can witness the power of nature up close.
