Hotel Nordlandet

From the founders of Michelin-starred Kadeau, with one restaurant in Copenhagen and another in southern Bornholm, comes Hotel Nordlandet, a beautiful hotel located on the shores of the northern tip of the island. The hotel rooms and self-accommodating flats are stylishly yet sparsely furnished and offer panoramic views of the Baltic Sea. The laid-back restaurant serves up a straightforward Nordic menu and at the Underbar bar, the beers on tap are from local breweries.

Entering the hotel, which is designed by Danish architectural practice 3XN, is like stepping foot in an innovative, forward-thinking experimental lab where guests can experience what it is like to live in a fully sustainable world without waste. All materials used in the building are either fully recyclable or biodegradable, solar power is used as the property’s energy source and algae are used to clean the sewage water. The property received a brand-new tree-storey addition in 2022 that has an eye-catching terrace and spa on the top floor.

Melsted Badehotel

Denmark’s coastline is dotted with ‘badehotel’, the elegant seaside inns that are a staple of the Danish summer, and the island of Bornholm is no exception. Melsted Badehotel was founded in 1932 and remains a classic Nordic seaside inn located a mere few steps from the water’s edge. The property’s restaurant specialises in traditional dishes from the island, such as pan-fried herring and roasted plaice.

Pension Langebjerg

Within walking distance from the granite massif of Hammeren is Pension Langebjerg, a cosy guesthouse housed in the former train station of Sandvig. Owned and run by the enthusiastic husband-and-wife team Clara and Jakob Beier Lund, this place is known for its lush garden furnished with deck chairs. This is a bit of a foodie spot, with a superb breakfast prepared using local produce, and a casual restaurant with a wine list featuring a selection of self-imported wines from the Spanish district of Somontano.

Pension Holmegaard

Facing the beachfront in Sandvig in Pension Holmegaard, a guesthouse that used to be a working farm with chickens, pigs, cows and horses. In 1960, it was converted into a guesthouse by Maja and Chresten Roed, and later taken over by Margit Christensen, who still runs the place. We are particularly fond of the gorgeous half-panelled dining room, which features an exceptional grid ceiling, where guests are treated to a local breakfast of organic eggs, fresh bread, jams and granola.
