Tekla

What’s the store in a nutshell?

Located in Copenhagen’s historic Egmont Building, Tekla’s debut flagship store is a tranquil haven that displays the Danish brand’s sleepwear, bedding, and textiles. Established by Charlie Hedin and Kristoffer Juhl in 2017, Tekla has seen rapid growth as people continue to seek enhancements for their home environments. The brand’s domestic vision is reflected in the store’s design, a collaboration between Tekla’s in-house team and art director Johannes Svartholm. The 200 square metre space artfully combines elements of Nordic Classicism, Art Nouveau and modernist design, presenting a harmonious fusion of historical and contemporary styles.

What is the aesthetic of the brand?

Tekla’s aesthetic is heavily influenced by founder Hedin’s passion for contemporary architecture and design. European modernists like Alvar Aalto, Mies van der Rohe and Axel Vervoordt have all served as reference points for the label’s designs. The brand’s signature style is characterized by refined simplicity, clean lines and a focus on quality materials. Recent collaborations with Les Couleurs Suisse AG and John Pawson further emphasize the brand’s commitment to creating elevated yet functional homeware pieces that celebrate the beauty of contemporary design.

What are the signature pieces?

The store offers Tekla’s popular cotton pyjamas, bedding, bath towels and mats, as well as exclusive pieces such as carafes designed for bedside tables and tumble-drying balls. New additions like boxer shorts and T-shirts will also be available. Through private appointments and in-store events, Hedin and Juhl aim to immerse visitors in the brand’s colours, quality and inspiration, while also providing a blueprint for external retailers to display Tekla products in their own spaces.

What’s the neighbourhood like?

Copenhagen’s Indre By is the area bounded by the lakes circling the inner city and the harbour. This historic centre reflects the entire city’s extent during the reign of King Christian IV (1577-1648) when the town was fortified. It is home to most of Copenhagen’s museums and attractions, making it an essential destination for experiencing Denmark’s rich culture and history. Strøget, the city’s famed pedestrian shopping street, runs right through it. If you’re new to the city, we recommend you start here, right at the heart of the bustling Danish capital, working your way outward to other neighbouring areas as you explore.
