The 5 best boutique and luxury hotels in Stavanger

Stavanger’s most stylish and personal hotel stays

Ask a dozen people about their favourite hotel, and you’ll likely get a dozen different responses. A favourite hotel is as much of a personal preference as your favourite movie, book or singer. But in our opinion, the best hotels have a few things in common: they feel intimate and personal (regardless of size or number of rooms), they have a distinctive vibe, the staff offers superb service and the architecture and interior design are unique and full of character. We love them even more when they are deeply ingrained in the local neighbourhood and culture. Here’s our list of five carefully crafted Stavanger boutique and luxury hotels that tell a strong story.

Eilert Smith Hotel

One of Stavanger’s finest architectural treasures, Eilert Smith Hotel, can be found among the city’s old wooden homes and contemporary high-rise structures. The structure is a prime illustration of Norwegian functionalism in the late 1930s and was designed and given its name by Stavanger architect Eilert Smith. Among the 12 rooms and suites, the Eilerts Residence is the star of the show. The 250 square metre penthouse suite, which was created by Pål Trodahl, has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a dining area with stunning harbour views. Re-naa, the only fine dining establishment in Norway with two Michelin stars, is located on the ground floor.

Hotel Victoria

Hotel Victoria, which was built in the early 1900s and has a stunning view of the Vogen, is located in the oldest building in Stavanger. It was created by architect Henry Bucher. The elegant and ornate neo-Renaissance structure was in keeping with the goals of a luxury hotel at the turn of the century, and it has welcomed notable visitors like King Haakon VII and Queen Maud. The hotel underwent renovation in 2020 with a focus on traditional design, architecture and art while also paying homage to the history of the structure.
