CF Hill

What’s the art gallery in a nutshell?

One of the city’s most compelling independent galleries is CF Hill, which focuses on showcasing quality exhibitions and artists – emerging as well as mid-career and art historical icons – that in turn promote dialogue between generations. Named after Carl Fredrik Hill, one of Sweden’s most talented landscape painters, the art gallery is housed in a 17th-century palace in central Stockholm. In 2015, Anna-Karin Pusic, Michael Storåkers and Michael Elmenbeck founded the gallery, becoming one of Sweden’s most influential art spaces.

What is showcased?

CF Hill handpicks all the art its displays, highlighting both the artist and the gallerist by which it’s represented. CF Hill also has a discerning eye for emerging talent. Since its inception in 2015, CF Hill has presented over fifty exhibitions across a vast range of artists including; Hilma af Klint, Carsten Höller, Carl Larsson, Olafur Eliasson, Anders Zorn, Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Vilhelm Hammershöi and Annie Morris. We are particularly fond of the gallery’s recurrent exhibition ‘Ten by Ten’, which aims to offer a diverse selection of iconic artworks, from different times and places, highlighting the great leaps in art history, and placed in context through beautiful set designs by interior stylist Linda Ring.

What is the architecture like?

After having housed the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce during the years 1927-2012, the 1648 palace has yet again opened up to the public through CF Hill’s art exhibitions. It has three exhibition spaces.

What’s the neighbourhood like?

Norrmalm is the central borough of Stockholm. Peppered with parks, waterways and an island, this neighbourhood shows off the city’s ritzy side through theatres, museums and glorious plazas. Norrmalm has some excellent places to stay, great shopping, some very good restaurants and a couple of must-visit museums – not least Nationalmuseum, which was re-inaugurated in 2018, and Hallwylska Museet, an incredible inner-city palace that remains virtually untouched since the late 1800s.
