Småland

Småland – region of deep forests, lakes and ‘troll’

Located in southern Sweden, Småland is known for its dense forests and abundance of lakes. The province is home to over 100,000 lakes and offers visitors a wide range of outdoor activities such as fishing, swimming, canoeing and hiking. The dense forests are also ideal for activities like hunting, mushroom picking and searching for ‘troll’, forest creatures that are popular in the folklore of the region. A unique feature of Småland is the glass making industry in the region known as Glasriket, it’s home to several world-renowned glassworks and craftsmen. Additionally, Småland is also known for being the birthplace of IKEA, which has its headquarters in the city of Älmhult. The largest cities in Småland are Jönköping, Växjö and Kalmar.
