Café Svenskt Tenn

What’s the café in a nutshell?

Svenskt Tenn, a well-known Swedish interior company founded in 1924 by Estrid Ericson, has expanded its iconic retail store to incorporate a café. A bid to portray the brand’s visual universe through taste sensations advances its aim to enhance all senses. Petter Nilsson, the restauranteur behind Petri, runs Café Svenskt Tenn, which serves smaller meals with sweet, salty, and sour flavours for breakfast, lunch, afternoon coffee, and early supper.

What are the signature dishes?

Nilsson has created a menu of small and mid-sized dishes to enjoy alone or family-style, similar to a Swedish take on the bento box that combines sweet, salty, and tart flavours. In the same way that Svenskt Tenn’s creator Estrid Ericson was a trailblazer in her area, Nilsson aims to broaden our sense of flavours with dishes like a hokkaido pumpkin pie and a bouillon served with salad alongside open-face sandwiches and pastries.

Drinks, anyone?

Nilsson’s inventive and playful foods are accompanied by craft beverages: Fairtrade coffee, tea and wine by the glass.

What’s the neighbourhood like?

Östermalm has long been stuck with a reputation of being Stockholm’s poshest yet most lacklustre neighbourhood. Although it is true that the neighbourhood still is quite sleepy in some of its parts, Östermalm boasts many smart bars, restaurants and boutiques – you just have to know where to look. The neighbourhood is home to the must-visit Östermalm Saluhall food hall, the Bergius botanic garden, the Royal Dramatic Theatre and the lush Humlegården park.
