The 5 best boutique and luxury hotels in Gothenburg, Sweden

Gothenburg’s most stylish and personal hotel stays

Ask a dozen people about their favourite hotel, and you’ll likely get a dozen different responses. A favourite hotel is as much of a personal preference as your favourite movie, book or singer. But in our opinion, the best hotels have a few things in common: they feel intimate and personal (regardless of size or number of rooms), they have a distinctive vibe, the staff offers superb service and the architecture and interior design are unique and full of character. We love them even more when they are deeply ingrained in the local neighbourhood and culture. Here’s our list of five carefully crafted Gothenburg boutique and luxury hotels that tell a strong story.

Overview: Gothenburg’s top 5 hotels

Dorsia Gothenburg Sweden hotel

01

Dorsia Hotel

To be fair, the dramatic Dorsia hotel might not be everyone’s cup of tea. The cerise velvet drapes and jacquard rugs, regency-style chairs and black, polished furniture inexorably divide individuals into two groups: admirers and haters. We belong to the former and appreciate the hotel’s extravagant flair, which sweeps us away from daily life. This upscale boutique hotel is superbly designed, with Carpe Diem mattresses and Egyptian cotton linen in all rooms. The Dorsia restaurant delivers ambitious, sophisticated tasting menus centred on Swedish and French cuisines with a few global influences.

Hotel Riverton Gothenburg Sweden

02

Hotel Riverton

Hotel Riverton is a modern independent design hotel located in the heart of Gothenburg near the waterfront. It has been family owned and run since 1991. The hotel is ideal for longer visits, with 185 rooms and suites furnished in a modern and stylish style and six full-service flats. Restaurant One, the newly remodelled restaurant, is located on the first level. It is one of Gothenburg’s most welcoming contemporary restaurants on the waterfront, with panoramic windows that provide a pleasing outlook. Another draw is the View skybar and restaurant, located on the 12th level, which offers amazing views of the Gothenburg port, as well as the full-service spa.

Hotel Bellora Gothenburg Sweden

03

Hotel Bellora

Hotel Bellora is bright, pleasant and hip. The décor has a 1960s Italian theme, with black and white Dolce Vita-style images of headscarved models riding Vespas and huge Italian families eating al fresco. Its comfortable ground-floor bar and restaurant open into the street (in summer) and are popular with both residents and visitors, while a regular stream of gorgeous people flows through reception to the rooftop bar, which is one of the locations to be seen in town during the summer. At Hotel Bellora, the city’s social life comes to you.

Hotel Flora Gothenburg Sweden

04

Hotel Flora

Inside the centrally located pink Victorian façade lies a hotel with lively, airy decor that mirrors the atmosphere of its surroundings. With most of the items of furniture and lighting from Design by Us, a Copenhagen-based style studio, cool Nordic design dominates, speckled with sorbet colours for a dash of playfulness. Each of the rooms has a different appearance. The hotel also houses Flora Workspace, a fun co-working and meeting place in the heart of Gothenburg.
