TypeO Loft

We know it is frowned upon to toot our own horn, but we can’t not mention TypeO Loft – our own secluded one-room slow living bed and breakfast – when covering Österlen. As travel writers, with the many wonderful destinations we’ve had the pleasure of experiencing in mind, we wanted to create a hospitality concept that brought together all that we’ve loved. But also everything that we have missed. The result is TypeO Loft, an intimate and personal getaway that is specifically arranged for our guest’s comfort and relaxation. Talldungens Gårdshotell

The Talldungen countryside hotel, run by husband and wife team David Levung-Höök and Emma Höök, started out as a foodie hotspot that attracted people in the know. A decade later, Talldungen is the place to see and be seen for anyone who visits Österlen. The relaxed 18-room property, which has an on-site micro-bakery, serves up a mean Med-inspired four-course menu well worth the visit.

Grams Gård

An 1851 farmstead, made up of three wings that form a U-shape around a cobblestone courtyard with a large chestnut tree at its centre, has been transformed into a spectacular retreat. The reason it looks so good is due to the fact that its owners, Ia Hjärre and Andy Nettleton, are both architects. The farm offers three types of accommodations: a 90 square metre ground floor apartment, a 50 square metre studio flat and a 25 square metre cabin, placed on its own in a nearby field.

Villa Strandvägen

A stone’s throw from Ystad’s beach and just around the corner from Ystad Saltsjöbad spa is Villa Strandvägen, a gorgeous wooden villa designed by Danish architect Peter Boisen. At the seven-room property, which is decorated in a romantic and floral Laura Ashley-inspired style, head chef Minus Källström and his team set out to create a feast for the taste buds with a seasonal menu.

Örum 119

Örum 119 is so much more than a place to stay. This lifestyle destination, which attracts hordes of visitors, is a café, a wood-fired pizza restaurant, an artisanal bakery, an ice cream parlour, a garden shop and a hotel merged into one. The hotel, located in a former school, has 15 well-appointed rooms. There is also Norrgavelhuset, a separate house with a decor by Nirvan Richter, designer and founder of environmentally sustainable Swedish furniture brand Norrgavel.

Rubensholm Bed & Breakfast

Nestled in the rolling landscapes around Brösarp is Rubensholm, a bed and breakfast housed in an 18th century half-timbered farmstead. Here, owners Margareta and William Söderlund have created a charming and rustic retreat that focuses on the simple pleasures in life – enjoying a glass of chilled wine in a comfortable wicker chair in the courtyard, dozing off to sleep in between linen sheets and starting the day with a breakfast tray packed with local treats.

MårtenPers Källa

Hospitality, nature and culture are brought together at MårtenPers Källa, an 11-room property housed in a former cowshed. This place is an odd bird, featuring exposed brick walls, ornamental wrought iron railings and cement floors. Our favourite space is the rustic event space where large square window panes frame the breathtaking views of rolling fields like live postcards. MårtensPers Källa also has an art hall and a summer theatre.

Ystad Saltsjöbad

In 1896, pharmacist and local politician Salomon Smith put in a motion to build a hotel along the sandy beaches on the outskirts of Ystad. Today, this same hotel has grown into one of Sweden’s most popular wellness destinations. With 139 rooms and suites, a spa area named Lido, several treatment facilities, a lounge area, the Nero bar and restaurants Port and Gildas, Ystad Saltsjöbad is sure to keep you busy.

Karlaby Kro

Karlaby Kro is one of Österlen’s more classical getaways with its white lime mortar façade, crisp bed linen and traditional table settings with white tablecloths and candelabras. This 22-room countryside inn, located west of the quaint coastal town of Simrishamn, is known for its restaurant, as well as its orangery with a swimming pool.
