Malmö’s best fashion shops for women’s and men’s style

Très Bien helped make the mix of high fashion, sportswear and streetwear feel natural long before it became a standard retail formula. Brothers Simon and Hannes Hogeman founded the Malmö business in 2006 with Björn Lindén and Jakob Törnberg, adding an in-house ready-to-wear line in 2014. Aplace gives Scandinavian fashion a sharp edit without locking itself into one aesthetic. Launched in 2007 after co-founders Kristian Rajnai and Kalle Tollmar had worked across fashion publishing and events, the retailer now mixes new labels with a substantial Pre-Loved offer. In Malmö, look for Hope, By Malene Birger, Jeanerica, Salomon and Wood Wood alongside second-hand Scandinavian fashion, international designer pieces and vintage. The mix extends to shoes, beauty, books and design objects, making this a useful stop around Davidshall square when you want to scan several strands of contemporary Nordic style in one place.

Japanese denim has a serious Malmö address at Meadow, where specialist menswear meets a store interior by Malmö-based spatial designer My Comét. Founded in 2008 and led by co-founder Christopher Åkesson, Meadow focuses on clothes that gain character through wear, with denim, workwear, military references and sturdy footwear at its core. Japan dominates the rails through orSlow, Full Count, Warehouse & Co, The Real McCoy’s, Porter by Yoshida and Kaptain Sunshine, joined by Barbour and Astorflex. Comét’s custom furniture and spatial design give the compact Stora Nygatan shop its distinctive physical identity. Ask about fabric, fit, washing and ageing.

Miloii feels like a stylist’s wardrobe spilling into a lifestyle shop, which makes sense: Karolina Vertus has run the boutique since 2005 alongside her work as a stylist. Womenswear leads, with Isabel Marant Étoile, Ganni, By Malene Birger, A.P.C., Rodebjer, Apof and Baum und Pferdgarten among the key labels. The eye then moves into jewellery, fragrance and interiors, where Astier de Villatte ceramics, Mad et Len scents and Pols Potten objects broaden the mix. It is a strong address for recognisable European fashion selected with a personal, decorative eye, particularly if you like to shop clothes and objects in the same sweep.

Per Ljung is menswear for people who notice the difference between a good navy jacket and a very good one. The longtime buyer and product developer opened his own business in 2009, with Frederik Krantz joining in 2018. The selection favours specialist makers: Aspesi and Ten C for outerwear, Drumohr and Zanone for knitwear, Incotex for trousers, Astorflex for shoes and Resolute for Japanese denim. Handmade shirts and relaxed Italian tailoring round out a wardrobe built on fabric, construction and fit instead of conspicuous branding. This is a shop to try things on, feel the cloth and use Ljung’s product knowledge.

Liebling is one of Malmö’s few fashion shops where the clothes are designed next to the sales floor. Founder Li Aronsson Jensen opened the business in 2005, adding an own label in 2015 that she now designs with Elina Lindblad in the adjoining Malmö studio. The collection is sewn in a small factory in Lithuania and follows a slow-consumption approach, with easy silhouettes, colour and a Nordic-Japanese streak. Around it sits a compact multibrand edit including Bric-a-brac, Rifò, Muse Wear, O My Bag, Sibin Linnebjerg and Veja. The result is part design studio, part neighbourhood womenswear shop and distinctly local.

Grandpa occupies the useful middle ground between city dressing and clothes that can take a weekend outdoors. Martin Sundberg, Anders Johansson and Jonas Pelz founded the Stockholm original in 2003, with Malmö following in 2017. The current edit includes Patagonia, Nudie Jeans, Universal Works, Forét, Birkenstock, Karhu and Edwin alongside the house label Grandpa Goods. Fashion sits with accessories, homeware and practical objects, while durability and sustainability shape the buying. Come for an overshirt, weather-ready jacket or sneakers, then keep going through bags, jewellery, books, games and useful things for the home. The breadth is part of the point.

Malmö has had an Engelska Herr since 1906, and the appeal is still specialist menswear with service to match. Now part of Malmö-based Baltzar, the shop mixes British and Italian wardrobe building with labels chosen for craft and longevity. Look for Herno and De Petrillo, Scottish knitwear from William Lockie, shirts from Mazzarelli, shoes from Carmina and Paraboot and accessories from Drake’s. Ready-to-wear is only part of the proposition: made-to-measure, an in-store tailor, private shopping and visiting trunk shows make this a place for getting fit and fabric right, particularly when buying tailoring, knitwear, shirts or proper shoes.
