Where to shop for interior design in Malmö

Malmö’s interior design scene is compact, but that may be its strength. In Skåne, southern Sweden, the city offers a handful of distinctive addresses where Scandinavian furniture, vintage pieces, craft and independent design sit comfortably together. These are the shops that make a design circuit genuinely worth doing.

AB Småland

Malmö, Sweden

Part concept store, part café and part evolving interiors set, AB Småland is one of Malmö’s more distinctive retail addresses. Founded by Bruno Bergenholtz, whose Småland upbringing shaped its emphasis on reuse, natural materials and everyday creativity, the 1,129-square-metre space mixes vintage furniture with sustainably minded fashion, homeware, plants and the brand’s own textiles. Much of the furniture used to display goods, including pieces in the café, is itself for sale, giving the store an unusually fluid, lived-in character. Among the labels represented are Tell Me More, Iris Hantverk, L Bruket, Redecker and OYOY, alongside smaller producers and one-off finds. The result feels closer to a creative household than a conventional shop.

Nordiska Galleriet

Malmö, Sweden

A fixture of Malmö’s design scene since the early 1990s, this 600-square-metre showroom on Engelbrektsgatan began life as Olsson & Gerthel before becoming part of Nordiska Galleriet in 2021. Its focus remains firmly on enduring furniture, lighting and objects by some of the strongest names in international and Scandinavian design. Cassina, B&B Italia, Vitra, Artek, Fritz Hansen and Carl Hansen & Søn sit alongside work by figures such as Alvar Aalto, Arne Jacobsen, Charlotte Perriand and Poul Kjærholm. More than a furniture shop, the Gamla Väster space functions as a design destination, with art, accessories and interior-design expertise complementing the larger pieces on display.

Norrgavel

Malmö, Sweden

Norrgavel’s Malmö flagship makes a strong case for furniture designed to outlast fashion. Founded in the early 1990s by architect and designer Nirvan Richter, the Swedish company built its identity around natural materials, repairability and a distinctly humanist approach to interiors. The 700-square-metre store occupies two floors of an 1898 building on Södergatan, where solid oak, birch, beech and ash furniture is shown alongside lighting, textiles and smaller objects for the home. Signature pieces include Richter’s Länstol armchair and restrained cabinets, tables and seating finished in soap, oil or egg-oil tempera. The aesthetic is quiet and tactile, rooted in Scandinavian craft rather than decorative effect.

Bon Ton Goods

Malmö, Sweden

Bon Ton Goods brings a distinctly cosmopolitan sensibility to Malmö’s Old Town. Founded by Mikkel E. Brøgger and Shane D. Hudson, who met in New York, the boutique draws on their shared interest in craftsmanship, art and collecting. Brøgger’s background spans industrial design, fine art and jewellery, including work with Georg Jensen and David Yurman. Inside, contemporary European design sits comfortably alongside antiques, Swedish craft and decorative pieces with an American Arts and Crafts inflection. The selection ranges from ceramics and textiles to fragrance, jewellery, stationery and vintage furniture, with names including Astier de Villatte, Trudon, Lisa Corti, Coral & Tusk and Antoinette Poisson. It is considered retail, but with the atmosphere of a collector’s home.

Slvrbrgs

Malmö, Sweden

Concept store Slvrbrgs picks up the thread from Silverbergs, the Malmö design store that shaped local taste for decades before closing in 1995. The new version comes from David Carlson, founder of David Design and former creative director at Orrefors Kosta Boda, together with Anders Sjöstedt, whose background runs through Minc and Hyper Island in New York. Set across 400 square metres, it folds fashion, interiors, books, music, art, gourmet finds and café life into one stop. Watch for names such as local designers and artists Kajsa Willner, Lab La Bla and Andréason & Leibel, as well as perfume brands 19-69 and Art Brüt. Another payoff is downstairs, in the tucked-away basement gallery space.

Peach Colony

Malmö, Sweden

Peach Colony is less conventional boutique than an evolving cultural space, bringing fashion, objects and curatorial thinking together near Malmö’s Möllevången district. Founded by Malmö-based curator and architect Shuyu Chen, the project grew from her long-standing interest in how people experience space, culture and one another. The name references the ancient Chinese tale of the Peach Blossom Spring, an imagined utopia removed from everyday life. That idea carries into the shop itself, where clothing and carefully chosen objects share space with exhibitions, performances and other gatherings. Rather than following a fixed retail formula, Peach Colony operates as a fluid platform for discovery, giving independent design and creative practice a distinctly personal setting.
