Halland, Sweden

Stay by region: our top hotel picks in Halland, Sweden

Halland may be Sweden’s most underrated hotel region: a west-coast stretch that has moved from pass-through territory to a proper stay-over destination. The draw is not one big resort but the concentration – sea baths, spas, serious kitchens, forest rooms and even a vineyard making its own wine.

Ästad Vingård

Tvååker, Sweden

At Sjöparken at Ästad Vingård, the lake is not the view; it is part of the room. Norm Architects arranged 28 timber-clad rooms as a low floating village at Ästad vineyard, each with a private sauna, bathing deck, outdoor shower and direct access to the shared natural pool. Inside, oak, stone, low furniture and large windows bring Nordic restraint together with Japanese spatial calm. The stay extends across one of Sweden’s largest organic vineyards: Sinnenas Spa adds hot and cold baths, an underwater sauna and a wine bar, while Michelin-starred Äng serves a no-waste tasting menu rooted in Halland produce. Book Sjöparken for the strongest connection to water – and wine.

Varbergs Kusthotell

Varberg, Sweden

Varbergs Kusthotell still follows the old sanatorium prescription: sea air, salt water and time, now translated into a more social kind of spa. The site began as a coastal sanatorium in 1904, and its 2026 overhaul by Norm Architects reopened lofty halls and large windows rather than smoothing away the history. The first phase added two spa floors with foot baths, warm stone benches, nature-led saunas, an orangery, fireside salon, Nordic afternoon tea and sand-filled mattresses, beside three heated outdoor pools and the sea. In June 2026, Severins reopened with open kitchens, daily grills, fish, shellfish and a wine room spanning classic producers and freer-minded newcomers.

Falkenberg Strandbad

Falkenberg, Sweden

At Falkenberg Strandbad, the Swedish west coast becomes a year-round holiday set of warm pools, cold drinks and sand directly outside the door. The resort traces its history to 1937, though its present character is decidedly social. Room choices range from courtyard- and pool-facing doubles to sea-view rooms with French balconies, full balconies or terraces; family rooms add sofa beds, while junior suites face the water from private balconies. The Retreat Club combines indoor and outdoor pools, a sea-view sauna, firelit relaxation areas and a poolside bar. Its 90-minute Ivory ritual moves through foot baths, hammam, sauna and a guided oil treatment. Dining divides between French-American brasserie Famille and Californian-leaning Sandy’s, known for seafood, grills and cocktails.

Hotel Tylösand

Halmstad, Sweden

Hotel Tylösand is where Halland beach culture meets Roxette co-founder Per Gessle’s appetite for music, photography and spectacle. Gessle and businessman Björn Nordstrand bought the century-old resort in 1995, developing its 231 rooms and public spaces into a lively mix of hotel, spa, concert venue and 23,000-square-metre photography gallery. The two-floor spa has indoor and outdoor pools, a swim-in cinema, saunas, cold bathing and weekend DJs. Four restaurant concepts range from Swedish cooking at Tylöhus to global small plates at Titus Tapas, while summer brings seafood at Bettans, concerts and Leif’s Lounge nightlife. Varbergs Stadshotell & Asia Spa

Varberg, Sweden

Varbergs Stadshotell & Asia Spa carries two identities under one roof: a grand 1902 city hotel facing the square and a Japanese-inspired spa above the rooftops. Its 178 rooms range from restored turn-of-the-century DeLuxe rooms to 66 individually designed Boutique rooms, where circular beds, bold colour and freestanding bathtubs replace hotel uniformity. Asia Spa is the main draw, with Japanese hot springs, a 30-degree vitality pool, salt and steam saunas, cold bathing and a rooftop outdoor pool overlooking Varberg Fortress and the sea. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the hotel restaurant, while Varberg’s centre, station and waterfront are close at hand.
