Hotel brand The Edition, founded by Ian Schrager who is credited for co-creating the concept of the boutique hotel back in the 1980s, has finally arrived in the Nordics. Located in the old harbour, The Reykjavík Edition captures the unique, individualistic and cool spirit of Iceland, and brought to life by interior design studio Roman and Williams. While rooms are designed as cosy little sanctuaries to retreat to, the hotel’s restaurants and bars contribute to heating up the Icelandic capitals already hoppin’ nightlife scene even more.
Miðborg, known as Reykjavík 101 after the postal code of this area, is the heart and soul of the city. It is full of music, art and great food. As one of Reykjavík’s most popular neighbourhoods, its residents are given a special name. Nicknamed Miðbæjarrotta, Icelandic for ‘downtown rat’, the artists, creatives and bohemians who live in the area wear the epithet with pride. Some of the highlights of this area include the striking Hallgrimskirkja Church, the National Museum of Iceland, Nauthólsvík Beach, the Volcano House and Harpa Concert Hall.
