The Nordics • Stay • Vipp Farmhouse in Søllested, Denmark
A 1775 gardener’s cottage, complete with the whitewashed facade and thatched roof found in traditional Danish rural abodes, has been converted into a secluded rural and minimalist retreat on the southern Danish island of Lolland. It neighbours endless fields, forests and green gardens. Vipp Farmhouse is part of Danish design brand Vipp’s ever-expanding portfolio of unique and innovative hospitality experiences around the Nordic region, including Vipp Shelter in Sweden, Vipp Loft, Vipp Chimney House and Vipp Pencil Case in Denmark, as well as The Bolder in Norway.
Inside the rustic miniature farmhouse is a thoroughly modern interior by Copenhagen-based interior designer Julie Cloos Mølsgaard. The compact 88 square metre house is made up of three bedrooms, an open plan kitchen and living space and a bathroom. It can host a total of six guests at a time. One of the splendid interior’s main features is the original wooden beams that are kept untouched and pair nicely with the sleek Vipp kitchen and furniture.
Lolland, also known as the pancake island because of its flatness, is the fourth largest island of Denmark. The rural area has been working hard to shed its bad rep as an area in decline due to high unemployment, when in fact it is a region under rapid development. Known for its natural beauty, Lolland is the place to go for those who enjoy relaxed days on the beach (there are a total of 26 to choose from) followed by visits to local farm shops in search of the best produce.
