Gurras

What’s the restaurant in a nutshell?

Get ready to embark on a culinary journey at Gurras, the restaurant of renowned chef Gustav Trägårdh. Located on the bustling Postgatan 16 in Göteborg, Trägårdh brings a fresh perspective to street food from around the globe. With a menu that spans the world, diners can expect to be transported to different cultures through every bite. The restaurant’s design, featuring large arched windows, high ceilings and wooden walls, is a perfect setting to enjoy the flavours of the world. The bar, made of red Bohus granite and weighing a massive six tons, adds a touch of luxury to the atmosphere. The open kitchen allows guests to watch the chefs at work, creating an inviting and relaxed ambience. Due to its limited seating capacity of 60-70 guests and 20 seats at the bar, securing a reservation at Gurras is highly recommended and in high demand.

What are the signature dishes?

The menu at Gurras includes dishes from all over the world, with the goal of serving street food from different countries and transforming it into high-quality restaurant dishes. The menu is broad and includes small, medium and large dishes, perfect for sharing or ordering your own dish. Visitors to Gurras can expect to find dishes such as langos, temaki, karaage, oysters and Sterlinghälle grilled fish on the menu. For dessert, the restaurant offers items such as grilled pineapple with liquorice, yuzu sorbet and roasted white chocolate. Many of the dishes can also be ordered in a vegetarian version.

Drinks, anyone?

At Gurras, they love all types of wine, particularly those that are sustainably grown with respect for nature and the origin of the grapes, lively wines that get them excited. They strive to highlight small producers primarily in Europe. One of the signature cocktails at Gurras is The Onedin Line. The spirit used is Linie Aquavit, produced in Norway and sent on a boat journey around the world, crossing the equator twice. It is aged in sherry barrels for 16 months. The reason for this is that the temperature differences and the movement of the sea create an added dimension to the drink. The Onedin Line is tweaked with citrus and lychee, adding freshness. It is recommended to be enjoyed as is, or paired with an oyster rally or any other dish.

What’s the city like?

Halfway between Copenhagen and Oslo, along Sweden’s rocky coastline in the provinces of Västergötland, Bohuslän and Halland, lies Gothenburg (Göteborg in Swedish). Historically regarded as a lesser city and overlooked by most travellers, it’s been reinventing itself since the 1970s collapse of its crucial shipbuilding industry. Today, this vibrant university town, a high-tech research centre and sustainability pioneer, is the second-largest city in Sweden. With its former warehouses now transformed into food markets, boiler houses into art galleries, and slaughterhouses into urban wineries, Gothenburg has been consistently ranked as the world’s most sustainable travel destination since 2016. Due to its growing appeal, its population is expected to increase by a third over the next 15 years.
