Sky Lagoon

What’s the spa in a nutshell?

Sky Lagoon, a geothermal spa located a mere 15 minutes from Reykjavík, presents a remarkable combination of modern luxury and natural wonder. Opened in 2021, it quickly became renowned for its iconic, futuristic design and the milky blue waters it harbours. Unlike its famous counterpart, the Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon offers a more intimate atmosphere thanks to its smaller size and lower capacity. The spa’s centrepiece is a large geothermal bath, maintained at about 38° Celsius (100.4° F), offering visitors a quite spectacular infinity pool experience with panoramic ocean views. Conceived by architect Halldór Eiríksson from T.ark Architects, the design of Sky Lagoon is inspired by Iceland’s dramatic landscapes and historic turf houses, blending elements of nature and tradition with modern luxury.

What are the treatments like?

The highlight of Sky Lagoon is its signature Seven-Step Ritual, designed to offer a holistic and rejuvenating spa experience. This ritual starts with a warm soak in the geothermal waters, followed by a sauna session with a view, a cold plunge and a walk through a refreshing cold mist. The fifth step involves a unique Sky Scrub, a body exfoliation using a special scrub that contains almond and sesame seed oils. Next, you enter a steam room to further open your pores and maximize the benefits of the scrub. The ritual concludes with a soothing shower. This sequence is not just about physical cleansing but also about mental rejuvenation, offering a complete sensorial experience.

What else?

Sky Lagoon extends its offerings to include a variety of dining and relaxation options. There are two dining venues on-site: the Sky Café, which offers light cafe bites like pastries, coffee and sandwiches, and the Smakk Bar which is known for its delicious Icelandic charcuterie platters. For those looking for a drink while soaking in the lagoon, there’s a swim-up Lagoon Bar serving a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The facility also provides a high level of convenience and comfort, with amenities such as free lockers, showers stocked with quality products and private changing areas for Sky Pass holders. Plus, Sky Lagoon is accessible for wheelchair users, ensuring inclusivity for all guests.

What’s the region like?

Höfuðborgarsvæði, Iceland’s pulsating capital region, is a dynamic fusion of rich history, cutting-edge art, and thriving urban life nestled amid the breathtaking natural beauty of southwest Iceland. Anchored by Reykjavík, the world’s northernmost capital, this vibrant region offers an array of must-visit attractions, including the iconic Hallgrímskirkja, the captivating Harpa Concert Hall, and the lively Laugavegur shopping district. Beyond the bustling cityscape, visitors can catch a glimpse of the mesmerizing Northern Lights during the winter months.
