Located in a historic building at Bankastræti 2, Bakabaka by day is a bustling bakery and café, renowned for its freshly baked artisan pastries and organic sourdough breads made with Icelandic stone-milled flour. Signature pastries include their delectable cardamom buns and sourdough croissants. As evening approaches, Bakabaka transforms into an Italian eatery, serving global hipster fare such as wood-fired pizzas, pasta, natural wines and local beers. Not a bad thing! The warm, rustic interior, complemented by exposed wood beams, creates a charming atmosphere. The founder, previously known for Brauð & Co, continues to leave a mark on Reykjavik’s food scene.

Brauð & Co

This small chain of bakeries is very popular in Reykjavik, renowned for its high-quality, freshly baked goods. The bakery operates multiple locations throughout the city, each offering a selection of pastries and breads made from organic ingredients. Their signature item is the kanilsnúður, or cinnamon roll, which is acclaimed for its delicious flavour and texture. We can’t agree more. Incidentally, the ’secret’ recipe is posted on their website, should you like to have a go at baking kanilsnúður yourself! Despite its modern look, Brauð & Co stays true to traditional Icelandic baking methods.
