At Six

What’s the hotel in a nutshell?

A listed Brutalist building, designed by Swedish architects Boijsen & Efervgren in the 1970s for Swedish bank Swedbank, now houses a hotel as aesthetically uncompromising as its severe monolithic facade. The atmosphere At Six is sombre and highly refined, and all fifteen floors are jam-packed with art and design by some of the world’s best contemporary artists and designers. This chic urban playground offers guests a restaurant, a bistro, two bars and a rooftop park within its four robust walls.

What are the rooms like?

Ranging from 25 to 42 square metres, At Six’s 343 rooms are a moody haven where guest comfort has been carefully considered. A green marble credenza runs along one wall and doubles as a desk and a cocktail bar. The Masterpiece Suite takes up no less than 85 square metres at the very top of the building and features an intriguing art collection curated by Swedish art curator Sune Nordgren.

What else?

London-based interior design practice Universal Design Studio has worked overtime to create the wow-factor experience that is At Six. The lobby is dominated by an impressive geometric white granite staircase with a signature sculpture by Spanish-Catalan artist Jaume Plensa. On the floor above, head chef Cornelis van der Plas has composed a multi-experimental menu for the Dining Room restaurant, and the Blanche & Hierta bar prides itself with one of Stockholm’s most extensive wine lists. The Stockholm Under Stjärnorna rooftop bar is the place to see and be seen.

What’s the neighbourhood like?

Once a spot for Stockholm’s elite, Brunkeberg Square was transformed into a business area at the time of Stockholm’s post-war redevelopment. After business hours, the square would become desolate and in the 1970s and 1980s, one of the streets leading up to the square was a traditional site for street prostitution. Since 2010, extensive efforts have been made to return the square to its former glory. Today, Brunkeberg Square is home to several hot hotels, restaurants and bars, among them Downtown Camper and Hobo.
