Stay by area: our top hotel picks in Djurgården, Stockholm

This is our edit of the top hotel stays on Djurgården, a green island in central Stockholm, Sweden where the city drops its shoulders and the trees take over. Museums and waterfront paths do the heavy lifting by day, while nights stay quiet and park-like. These hotels suit anyone who wants Stockholm close, but with space, air and a slower rhythm.

Backstage Hotel

Stockholm, Sweden

Sitting on Djurgården’s museum strip, Backstage Hotel is the hotel you book when you want Stockholm with a backstage pass. Housed in the same building as ABBA The Museum and redesigned by DinellJohansson in 2022, Backstage Hotel leans fully into its creative DNA. The architecture by Johan Celsing holds its own among the park’s trees, but it is the interior that hits first: neon, sculptural objects, pop references and a lived-in theatrical mood. Rooms come with handmade Swedish beds, Meraki toiletries and French balconies overlooking the water. Konsthallen handles breakfast, lunch and dinner with a menu of sharing plates, while Pop Story and Visitors Bistro keep the energy going from daytime fika to late-night bites.

Hotel Hasselbacken

Stockholm, Sweden

The legendary Hasselbacken, long a cornerstone of Stockholm’s cultural life, is gearing up for a new chapter under the ownership of Björn Ulvaeus. The ambition was to rebuild it as a year-round stage for music, culture, food and events on Djurgården, one of the city’s most visited destinations. Hasselbacken’s history stretches back to the mid-1700s when locals flocked to its leafy hillside for outings, later transforming into a major entertainment and dining address through the 1800s and well into the 1900s. Its revival is already in motion with the reopening of the 113-room Hotel Hasselbacken.
