Freyja

What’s the restaurant in a nutshell?

Freyja occupies a 1,100-square-meters space in the Slussen inner city area, offering a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic sight of Stockholm. The restaurant is run by an award-winning team of chef Emma Shields, bar master Jimmy Dymott and sommelier Ellen Franzén. Shields has worked at several high-profile restaurants in Stockholm, including Restaurang Flickan, Djuret, Oaxen Krog, Restaurang Volt and Omakase Köttslöjd. Dymott has been associated with several award-winning bars in Stockholm, with Marie Laveau being his most notable. Franzén has won several awards, including the Sommelier-SM multiple times, and was most recently the head sommelier at Gastrologik, which had two Michelin stars when it closed.

What are the signature dishes?

Freyja’s menu takes inspiration from classic Swedish cuisine but isn’t afraid to incorporate global flavours. The menu features dishes such as lamb shank for two, raw beef with weed pesto, and dumplings with nettle broth. Emma Shields, the chef and menu creator, strives to create an experience reminiscent of eating at grandma’s house, where the scent of browned butter fills the room. The team focuses on providing a comfortable and homey atmosphere that encourages customers to return. Additionally, the menu will include special dishes that are only available for a limited time and are created with small batches of ingredients to provide regular guests with unique culinary experiences.

Drinks, anyone?

The drinks menu at Freyja is an integral part of the overall dining experience. Bar master Jimmy Dymott has created a fun and playful cocktail list that includes references to pop culture and local Södermalm history. The drinks are unpretentious, and Dymott aims to provide guests with generous and tasty cocktails. The wine list, curated by sommelier Ellen Franzén, features wines from all over the world, but she has a particular love for semi-local European wine producers. Franzén aims to provide a dynamic wine list that caters to all types of wine drinkers, including those who prefer traditional or natural wines.

What’s the neighbourhod like?

Södermalm, known simply as ‘Söder’ amongst locals, was once a seventeenth-century slum. Today, it’s arguably one of the city’s hottest neighbourhoods, and a favourite among creatives, young urban families and professionals alike. The hip district is home to bijou, trending restaurants, picnic-friendly parks and locals whose street style you’ll most certainly want to steal.
