Frantzén

What’s the restaurant in a nutshell?

Frantzén is hands down one of the best meals we have ever experienced. What makes the 23-seat Michelin three-star restaurant so memorable is not only the remarkable food and outstanding service but also the truly how the immersive dining experience involves all three floors of a Stockholm townhouse, designed by local interior architectural studio Joyn. Ring the doorbell to be greeted by your name, step into the elevator and let chef Björn Frantzén take you on a once in a lifetime gastronomic adventure that is carefully considered down to the very last detail. Set aside four hours for a meal at Frantzén.

What are the signature dishes?

Chef Björn Frantzén’s food is a unique hybrid of Nordic cuisine with Asian notes – among the signatures is his take on French toast, butter-fried levain bread with aged parmesan, fried onions and 100-year-old balsamic vinegar topped with an insane amount of black truffle. The tasting menu typically includes a chawanmushi, a Japanese egg custard dish that contains savoury ingredients such as foie gras or aged pork.

Drinks, anyone?

Frantzén has an extensive wine list from which you can choose your own wines by the bottle or by the glass. We really enjoyed the wine pairing menu. There is also a non-alcoholic ditto where several of the beverages have been devised by the in-house chef team.

What’s the neighbourhood like?

Norrmalm is the central borough of Stockholm. Peppered with parks, waterways and an island, this neighbourhood shows off the city’s ritzy side through theatres, museums and glorious plazas. Norrmalm has some excellent places to stay, great shopping, some very good restaurants and a couple of must-visit museums – not least Nationalmuseum, which was re-inaugurated in 2018, and Hallwylska Museet, an incredible inner-city palace that remains virtually untouched since the late 1800s.
