Pontus Frithiof La Tour

What’s the restaurant in a nutshell?

Ever heard of power dining? That is, according to renowned Swedish chef Pontus Frithiof and his companion Mario E. Moroni, what La Tour is all about. Elevated among the clouds, on the 23rd floor of Stockholm landmark DN-Skrapan, the fine-dining restaurant ups the game for unique and first-class Stockholm culinary experiences by introducing a dinner service called the Unicorn. The dinner service, available for a party of up to six, kicks off by the guests being picked up by La Tour’s Rolls-Royce Silver Seraph before being served a signature tasting menu with matching wines. The glamourous and comfortable space is designed by interior design firm Whyte Lilja.

What are the signature dishes?

At La Tour, Frithiof serves up a European-inspired (with a particular fancy for the French cuisine) seasonal menu where staple foods for the well-to-do – caviar, truffle and lobster – are ever-present. Aside from the set menu offered at the Unicorn dinner service, there is also an à la carte menu which includes foie gras with brioche and poached pears in Sauternes, and Tournedos Rossini. On Saturdays, La Tour offers afternoon tea with a special selection of tees, finger sandwiches and choux pastries.

Drinks, anyone?

Head sommelier Moroni has obviously put his heart and soul into La Tour’s extensive wine list, which includes bottles not found anywhere else in Sweden. There is plenty to choose from in his selection of champagnes and Tokaji and Sauternes wines.

What’s the neighbourhood like?

In the early 20th century, the old industrial district of Kungsholmen was restructured to make way for residential areas. Not quite as vibrant as other Stockholm neighbourhoods, Kungsholmen is known for its laid-back vibe and lush parks. It is also home to the colonnaded Stockholm City Hall, where the annual Nobel Prize ceremony is held in its banquet hall.
