House of Gärsnäs

Southern Swedish furniture manufacturer Gärsnäs’s Stockholm showroom and store is designed and furnished to feel just like a home – a very stylish one at that. House of Gärsnäs is located in a historic building designed by architect Victor Ringheim on the inner-city island of Skeppsholmen. Interior designer Lotta Agaton, whose signature style is truly made justice in this space, has worked closely with the National Property Board of Sweden to preserve the unique building’s identity.

Tambur Stockholm Sweden

Tambur

This Södermalm retail gem is one of those eclectic places where you’ll always find something to fall in love with. In 2014, founder Anders Widegren came across the derelict storefront on Folkungagatan and got to work on converting the space to what it is today. Aside from stocking goods by Swedish brands and craftspeople such as Bonni Bonne, Cappelen Dimyr, Joel Sandelius and Jonas Lindholm, Tambur also designs and produces its own line of pieces under the name Tambur Collection.

Svenskt Tenn Stockholm Sweden

05

Svenskt Tenn

In 1924, an art teacher named Estrid Ericson used a small inheritance to start her own design business. She later teamed up with Austrian architect Josef Franck to develop the aesthetic expression that has made Svenskt Tenn a world-renowned brand. Its flagship store on the Strandvägen waterfront boulevard is not merely a shop – it is the manifestation of a dream version of a way of life. Svenskt Tenn regularly introduces new design collaborations and exhibitions in the busy store. Come mentally prepared to queue.

Massproductions Stockholm Sweden

06

Massproductions Works

Few Scandinavian brands are as rock ‘n roll as Massproductions, which always challenges the public with novel and disruptive ideas on design. In 2009, Magnus Elebäck and Chris Martin set out to share a neo-modernist vision of functional Scandinavian design and have from the very start owned the entire production chain – from manufacturing to sales and marketing. Visit the Södermalm store, located in an Art Noveau building designed by architect Sam Kjellberg, for their take on furniture and design.

Fogia Stockholm Sweden

07

Fogia

Fogia was sprung out of a 1981 business that developed a pioneering method for joining sheets of plexiglass to create striking tables and storage. In commissioning works from the likes of Norm Architects, Andreas Engesvik and Monica Förster, the brand has cemented its reputation as one of Sweden’s leading contemporary design manufacturers. Although the showroom is quite a trek from downtown Stockholm, the waterside Nacka workplace, showroom and store offer an inspiring insight into the world of Fogia.

Melimeli Atelier Stockholm Sweden

08

Melimeli Atelier

After a career as a photographer and stylist, Amelia Widell set out to realise her dream to create her own brand Melimeli in 2015. What started out with a sofa (which still is one of the brand’s bestsellers) is now a design brand with an entire line of furniture and accessories. The Stockholm flagship store is a fun and colourful place that brings to life Widell’s vision of being able to create a personal home at an affordable price point.

Ogeborg’s The Workshop

How can a textile floor enhance the atmosphere of a space and make the world around us a tad bit softer and more welcoming? That is what family-owned carpet and textile floor company Ogeborg encourages its customers – mostly professionals in the design industry – at The Workshop, the company’s ever-evolving Södermalm showroom designed by Note Design Studio.

Hem Stockholm Sweden

10

Hem

Although you’ll have to schedule an in-person visit in advance, we highly recommend a visit to Hem’s Stockholm HQ if you are in the Norrmalm neighbourhood. Designed by Stockholm-based multidisciplinary design practice Atelier Paul Vaugoyeau together with Hem’s internal design studio, the quietly austere space showcases many of the brand’s striking pieces. The yellow Puffy Brick counter, designed by London-based Soft Baroque, is worth the visit alone.
