Copenhagen, Denmark

Connie-Connie

What’s the café in a nutshell?

It should come as no surprise that art centre Copenhagen Contemporary café Connie-Connie is not your average café. Conceived by art studio and flower shop Tableau in collaboration with Australian designer Ari Prasetya, the seafoam green space features an extensive series of different custom chairs in upcycled wood. Around 25 different international and Danish artists, architects and designers were each asked to use Douglas Fir offcuts provided by Danish flooring manufacturer Dinesen to create their very own take on a chair. The brief? To design a chair that is comfortable. Each chair is also available for sale on-site or by emailing the studio.

What are the signature dishes?

There is a selection of lighter dishes available, many of them straight from a tin. Line-caught sardines, tuna and squid are served with lemon, dill, mayonnaise and bread. There is also a selection of cakes, cookies and chocolates.

Drinks, anyone?

As with the rest of the city, there is a wide selection of natural wines available. And coffee, tea and artisan soft drinks, of course.

What’s the neighbourhood like?

In recent years, Refshaleøen has transitioned from a run-down industrial district to one of the hippest areas of town. Originally an artificial island in its own right, it is now connected with the larger island of Amager. Hop on a bike and head out to Refshaleøen for innovative gastronomy, contemporary art or a dip in the sea.
