What’s the hotel in a nutshell?

At CitizenM Copenhagen, located on the corner of the Rådhuspladsen square, compact living has become an art form that is as close to perfect as humanly possible. The quirky and youthful hotel turns hospitality on its head by placing the self-service check-in desk and communal areas – a 24/7 bar and canteen, a library, a living room and four meeting rooms – on the top floor, overlooking an energetic city full of wonderful experiences. Luckily, CitizenM Copenhagen is located smack in the middle of it all.

What are the rooms like?

All of the CitizenM’s 238 rooms are more or less the same size (averaging at 14 sq m). Their streamlined and ultramodern look, which reminds us of a roomier and brighter Scandinavian version of the Japanese capsule hotel, is identical throughout and features an extra large king-size bed, a wash station and – inside a futuristic glass cubical – a rain shower and a toilet. We loved some of the details: the AM and PM shower gels (depending on your mood), the coloured mood lights and the remote-controlled blackout blinds. Make sure to ask for a corner room, which offers views over the square in two directions.

What else?

While the hotel’s entrance might feel impersonal, the seventh-floor lobby, bar, canteen and living room are anything but. Art, books and colourful furniture is in abundance. The friendly staff greets everyone with a smile and serves up a nice selection of casual foods and beverages. The breakfast buffet has a small yet carefully selected assortment of items (the sugary cinnamon bun is worth a stay at CitizenM alone) and we really appreciated the fact that a designated barista is at hand to prepare the guest’s choice of breakfast coffees or teas.

What’s the neighbourhood like?

Copenhagen’s Indre By is the area bounded by the lakes circling the inner city and the harbour. This historic centre reflects the entire city’s extent during the reign of King Christian IV (1577-1648) when the town was fortified. It is home to most of Copenhagen’s museums and attractions. Strøget, the city’s famed pedestrian shopping street, runs right through it. If you’re new to the city, we recommend you start here, right at the heart of the bustling city, working your way outward to other neighbouring areas as you explore.
