Jänkä Resort
Kolari, Finland

Above the Arctic Circle, in the village of Äkäslompolo near Ylläs, Jänkä Resort turns Lapland’s vastness into something quietly personal. This is not a single hotel but a small ecosystem of stays, from private cabins and suites to larger houses made for lingering. Everything orbits the Safari House, the resort’s social heart. Designed by Finnish studio Fyra, it works as restaurant, lobby and safari hub in one. Think generous country-house warmth rather than lodge theatrics: wood everywhere, vintage finds, bespoke furniture, fireplaces and soft light. The dining room feels like stepping into a host’s kitchen, while discreet gear rooms smooth the shift between interior calm and Arctic wilderness.

Skýra Retreat
Rovaniemi, Finland

Silence is part of the proposition at Skýra Retreat. Set between Lake Norvajärvi and the forests of Finnish Lapland, the retreat sits about twenty minutes from Rovaniemi Airport yet feels structurally removed from it. At the centre is a 1950s village schoolhouse, repurposed as the restaurant and shared living space rather than a nostalgic centrepiece. Founder Susanne Hulbekkmo developed the project with architect Enni Hukka and UKI Arkkitehdit, with interiors by Marjo Saarinen. The retreat offers 15 suites, including log-built Mökki cabins, the former teacher’s chambers and a private lakeside villa. As part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Skýra is defined by how the place is used – long stays, slow meals, cold water, early nights and a setting that doesn’t require interpretation.

The Dock
Södertälje, Sweden

Where the Swedish city of Södertälje meets the water, a new vertical landmark rises: a 14-storey hotel bringing international polish to Marenplan in the city centre. The Dock folds rooms, restaurants, a skybar, cinema, conferences and a 1 400-square-metre spa into one sculptural stack owned by Winn Hotel Group and part of Nordic Hotels & Resorts. Interiors lean mid-century modern – stripes, grids and colour punches – anchored by Spik Studios’ calm, retro-Nordic rooms overlooking Södertälje canal. Jackie’s, a New York-leaning bistro with Nordic flavour, runs from breakfast to late night, while Birds Eye delivers the city’s first skybar with 360-degree views.

Four Suites
Copenhagen, Denmark

Four Suites is not trying to charm everyone, and that’s exactly the point. Hidden inside a restored 19th-century townhouse on Bredgade, this four-key address operates somewhere between a private apartment and a quietly obsessive design project. You let yourself in, close the door and Copenhagen falls into step around you. Each suite carries a name rather than a concept – Brønnums, Zieglers, Dehns, Harsdorffs – references to the people and institutions that once shaped this part of Frederiksstaden. This is a stay for travellers who like autonomy, silence and space.

Scandic Pohjanhovi
Rovaniemi, Finland

Scandic Pohjanhovi in Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland is the kind of place locals name without needing directions – the riverside landmark that taught generations what Lapland tourism looked like. The refresh keeps that weight and clears the clutter. Fyra Design Agency, a Helsinki-based architecture and interior architecture practice, reworked the public zones: restaurant and bar, lobby, conference rooms, gym and the children and youth areas. Later layers were stripped out so the building’s northern functionalism can do its job again – lobby floors, the main counter and the restaurant pillars are back in view.

Gáldu Hotel & Spa
Saariselkä, Finland

Gáldu Hotel & Spa sits on the edge of Urho Kekkonen National Park in Finnish Lapland and it knows exactly what you came for: Arctic light, silence and the kind of view that makes your phone feel pointless. Finnish architect Pekka Mäki gave all 31 rooms and suites floor-to-ceiling windows, then kept the interiors pared back with Scandinavian pieces and a few Japandi notes. Dinner leans on Lappish cooking and local produce, with a fireside bar that turns winter into a plan. The spa takes its job seriously – three saunas, a warm pool, an outdoor jacuzzi and a cold plunge for anyone who needs proof they’re awake.

Rox Resort
Køge, Denmark

Set along Køge’s coastal stretch, Rox Resort is emerging as one of Denmark’s most exciting winter escapes. With 156 rooms designed by Spik Studios, the interiors combine mirrored surfaces, velvet tones, chalk walls and burnished brass. Here, East meets West, with a travel-era romance. The resort’s rooftop pool area is the kind of place you can spend a whole day. Three heated pools (including one with a glass ceiling), a sauna, a gym and panoramic views over Køge Bay. Even the dining at Rox Resort is design-led. You can pick between The Dumpling Bar by the pool (bright, playful and Asian-inspired) and R.H. Smith’s The Dirty Sichuan for a more theatrical, spiced-up evening. For drinks, the Birdcage bar channels old-school glamour with tableside service and a trolley, giving every cocktail a little show.

Vipp Lofoten
Stormolla, Norway

Vipp, the Danish design brand best known for its industrial kitchens and furniture, has taken its philosophy to the edge of the map. Vipp Lofoten is the brand’s most remote guesthouse to date, set on Stormolla, a small island in Norway’s Lofoten archipelago, north of the Arctic Circle. The project forms part of True North Lofoten, a carefully planned cluster of architecture-led cabins developed with a long-term view of the landscape. Designed by Norwegian studio Logg Arkitekter within Snøhetta’s masterplan, the building nods to the region’s traditional rorbuer fishing huts without turning them into pastiche. Elevated on stilts above rock and sea, the house faces raw weather and open horizons. Inside, everything is unmistakably Vipp: a fully equipped steel kitchen, pared-back furniture, muted tones and a near-monastic calm.

Hotel Hans
Copenhagen, Denmark

Hotel Hans is shaping up to be one of the most interesting openings in Copenhagen’s boutique scene for 2025. Brøchner Hotels, one of the few B Corp-certified hotel groups in Scandinavia, is steering the project with its usual mix of Danish design intelligence and responsibility-first thinking. What we love is the intention. Hotel Hans is meant to read as a small, personality-forward city stay where materials matter, energy use is scrutinised and public spaces feel like extensions of Copenhagen’s creative life. The building itself dates back to 1900, but the interiors are a deliberate departure. Textured concrete, soft green tones, warm wood surfaces and modern lighting come together to show craftsmanship and bravado in equal measure.

Waldorf Astoria Helsinki
Helsinki, Finland

The rebranded Waldorf Astoria Helsinki emerges from the legacy of Hotel Maria, reintroducing the property as Finland’s first Waldorf Astoria. The architecture is classic. Originally built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Finnish architects Evert Lagerspetz and Armas Siitonen. Inside, the design combines Nordic minimalism with elevated luxury. The rooms are designed with earthy tones, handcrafted furnishings and high ceilings that feel both calming and grand. Attic-style duplex suites retain original wooden beams, giving a raw, architectural edge. We love the Peacock Bar, inspired by Waldorf Astoria New York’s Peacock Alley. It’s laid-back by day and elegant by night. In the spa, a glass-roof atrium frames a calming wellness zone where you’ll find a Finnish sauna, steam room, cold plunge pools, hot tubs and four treatment rooms.

Hagastrand
Stockholm, Sweden

Wellness just got louder. Sitting pretty by Brunnsviken, Hagastrand is the new social wellness playground from Nobis Hospitality Group – the team behind hits like Hotel Skeppsholmen and Nobis Hotel. Designed by Wingårdhs, the 215 rooms lean Nordic and natural, but it’s the more-than-2,500-square-metre spa that steals the robe. Expect infrared glow sessions, Scandinavia’s largest snow room, neuroacoustic lounges, Gongmatic (the first outside Italy) and Sweden’s largest ‘event sauna’ – a 60-seat ritual led by a sauna master with stage presence. Add Njord, a restaurant themed around forest, sea, earth and fire, plus lounges that shift from soft whispers to social swirl. Five minutes from Stockholm, Hagastrand is proof that wellness doesn’t have to be quiet.

1 Hotel Copenhagen
Copenhagen, Denmark

Right in the heart of Copenhagen – one of the world’s greenest cities – 1 Hotel Copenhagen doesn’t feel like an arrival. It feels inevitable. Part of a global line of luxury eco hotels, it’s carved into a former 1960s department store, now reimagined with weathered wood, recycled materials and just enough concrete left exposed to keep it honest. Rooms are pared back and deeply considered. There’s a rooftop restaurant with herb gardens, a spa with Nordic treatments and a gym that doesn’t scream wellness but quietly delivers it. Like Copenhagen itself, it’s thoughtful, forward-looking and comfortable in its own skin.

The Bolder Wave
Forsand, Norway

Suspended like a minimalist spacecraft above the Lysefjord, The Bolder Wave is Norway’s most spectacular new sleep. This daring cantilevered cabin near Preikestolen fuses brutalist lines with soft Nordic woods, offering uninterrupted views from your bed straight into the blue-green abyss below. Inside, it’s all slate, oak and sharp Scandinavian design – created in collaboration with Snøhetta – while outside, the wild Rogaland landscape commands every moment. Guests come for the solitude but stay for the strange serenity that descends with the morning mist. If you’re craving a remote reset with architectural clout and zero distractions, this is the kind of off-grid you’ll want to switch on for.

Strandvillan
Ljunghusen, Sweden

Strandvillan opened in 2025 in Ljunghusen, a beachside village on the Falsterbo Peninsula, about 30 minutes south of Malmö. Set inside an early-20th-century seaside villa, the hotel resists polish in favour of restraint. Interiors lean on pale wood, washed colours and daylight rather than décor. The scale is intentionally intimate, closer to staying at someone’s coastal house than checking into a hotel. Downstairs, the restaurant works with seasonal Nordic ingredients, changing dishes as produce shifts rather than sticking to a fixed menu. Days follow the rhythm of the beach just beyond the dunes – walks, swims, long meals and very little reason to rush back inside.

Tromsø keeps stretching north and Scandic just doubled down on it. In the new Vervet district – a waterfront neighbourhood carved out of former industrial land – The Dock 69°39 by Scandic, opened in 2025, rises over 12 floors, adding 305 rooms to a city already straining under winter tourism. The design leans hard into the climate: carpets made from recycled fishing nets built to survive crampons, a heated rooftop running track, a sauna with Arctic views and a brasserie on the tenth floor that feels suspended above the harbour. It is one of Scandic’s signature hotels and its boldest in Northern Norway, built for travellers chasing sky, weather and horizon.

Sibbjäns
Burgsvik, Sweden

On Gotland, the Baltic island known for its medieval towns, limestone quarries and summer influx of Stockholmers, Sibbjӓns bills itself as Sweden’s first boutique farmstay. At the island’s southern tip, a cluster of 19th-century limestone barns has been turned into a farm hotel and restaurant. The project comes from four founders: restaurateur Susanna Rönn and film agent Pontus Rönn, journalist Kina Zeidler and her husband Jonas Nordlander — the tech entrepreneur behind Tradera and Avito. The kitchen follows their idea of bonngastronomi: generous, seasonal menus shaped by the farm’s own gardens and animals. Nine boutique rooms, 13 rustic lodge bunks and a natural pool, sauna and farm shop complete this Swedish take on agriturismo.

Roberta’s Society

From the team behind Copenhagen’s Hotel Sanders comes something looser, louder and far less polished – in the best way. Roberta’s Society, set in a former 1930s library in central Aarhus, is Kolpin Hotels’ newest venture and it throws the rulebook out the window. Stay the night or just drop in. Catch a film, join a dinner, wander down to the basement where Roberta’s Stage hosts everything from soft-spoken acts to full-blown parties. Upstairs, Cantina dishes out generous plates, natural wines and a mood that’s warm, not curated. This isn’t about high thread counts or hushed tones – it’s about people, rhythm and the strange alchemy that happens when strangers decide to stick around.

Petra Hotel
Copenhagen, Denmark

Tucked behind Copenhagen’s King’s Garden, Petra Hotel feels like the kind of place you’d move into if they let you. Designed in the 1940s by Kay Fisker, the building still holds his quiet confidence – terrazzo floors, brass railings, curved stairwells – now revived and reimagined by furniture brand &Tradition. The 40 rooms are understated but intentional, balancing mood with clarity. Downstairs, Petra Bar & Restaurant draws locals and travellers with well-built cocktails, layered lighting and food that plays with Danish tradition without leaning on it. Petra is part of Copenhagen Design Hotels, the group behind Hotel Alexandra, and it brings the same belief: heritage deserves more than nostalgia, it should be lived in.

Design cues draw from ice, minerals and the surrounding tundra, without forcing the theme. Ole Birger Giæver, founder, built a three-building compound around a courtyard, designed by Odd Thommesen, architect. Expect eight en-suite bedrooms, a library lounge, a spa building with sauna and an outdoor jacuzzi, plus stone from Alta, slate from Oppdal and solar panels.
