Åben

Åben, housed in a former 1932 slaughterhouse in Copenhagen’s Meatpacking District, was transformed into a sleek brewery, restaurant and bar by Pihlmann Architects. Preserving many original features, such as the blue-rimmed doors and geometric clusters of white wall tiles, the design emphasizes the building’s industrial history. The brewery features conical steel fermentation tanks suspended from the original gridded rail system. Semitransparent curtains divide spaces while crimson red flooring adds warmth. At the heart of Åben is the open kitchen, where visitors can experience the brewing process up close. The signature American Pale Ale, a well-balanced citrus and hop delight, showcases the brewery’s dedication to quality and innovation.
