Andersen & Maillard’s 2023 expansion to Ny Østergade confirms its stature as a leading light in Copenhagen’s café scene. With three distinct spaces, from the Nordhavn production hub to the Nørrebro roastery, each location carries the unmistakable touch of interior designer Danielle Siggerud. While the modern aesthetic intrigues, the star attractions remain the pastries: the singular hazelnut cube croissant and the irresistibly rich chocolate variant. At Andersen & Maillard, contemporary design meets traditional pastry-craft

Sitting where Michelin-starred Relæ once thrived, Topicàl is the exhilarating newcomer to Copenhagen’s post-New Nordic scene. Helmed by the dynamic Davide Laudato, a culinary maestro with stints at European giants like Frantzén and Bæst, this restaurant marries Mediterranean vibrancy with Denmark’s organic produce. Dive into inventive dishes, from house-made limoncello to handcrafted pasta, as Topicàl champions a predominantly vegetable-focused menu, offering opt-in organic meats like the revered Hindsholmgrisen. A testament to the resilience of gastronomy amid global challenges, this spot exudes a welcoming warmth in its Nørrebro basement setting, attracting both local gourmands and wandering international epicures.

Tucked away in the charming Tivoli Gardens is a restaurant that celebrates Denmark’s bounty in all its green and sustainable glory – from field to sea. At Kilden i Haven – Danish for ‘the source in the garden’ – chef Christian Hoffmann, previously of Restaurant Almanak in the Royal Danish Opera, crafts an evening menu that pays tribute to the changing seasons and the flavours they bring. The cuisine is based on organic Danish ingredients, but elevated with traditional techniques like pickling, smoking and fermentation, and complemented with luxury ingredients like truffles and caviar.

Villette, located in Nørrebro, is a new restaurant and bar that promises to bring fresh and nutritious food to Copenhagen’s dining scene. Owners Martin Ho and Jesper Emil Norrie, the masterminds behind Pompette and Poulette, have teamed up with NYC’s Marissa Lippert, formerly of Nourish Kitchen + Table, to create a menu that focuses on delicious, seasonal food that also happens to be healthy-ish. With a natural wine selection similar to Pompette and the attentive service of general manager Daníel Örn Einarsson, Villette is the perfect spot for a cosy and intimate night out with friends.
